Foraging for blackberries
It is hard for me walk far here without the urge to pick the autumn hedgerow fruits. Yesterday we went prepared with a plastic bag when we went for a walk through the woods not far from here. The biggest and fattest berries were in the hedgerows on the side of the road but the traffic is so heavy that we didn't really want to pick them.

Plenty of blackberries to harvest.
The bridle paths we were walking along go through the Althorp estate and although the woods are managed the blackberries were still plentiful. There were also some elderberries but not enough to warrant picking. They had either dried up or had been eaten by the birds. Something to go back for later in the season ( if we were here) would be sweet chestnuts. The trees were both planted and self sown.

A blackberry and apple crumble.
On returning home a delicious blackberry and apple crumble which we all enjoyed for dessert.
